Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church members (rural Axtell, KS) wanted to help victims affected by the recent Nebraska floods and acted on that after learning of Peace Lutheran Church’s relief efforts in Fremont, NE. Salem’s Pastor Cindy Cone (rural Axtell, KS), who previously served as Youth and Education Pastor at Salem Lutheran Church in Fremont, NE helped coordinate our Church in contacting the Nebraska Church to coordinate relief efforts for recent flood victims. We were moved by the Fremont NE Church’s coordination efforts and wanted to help. Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church members in rural Axtell, KS chose to direct all Lenten season offerings to be given to Salem Lutheran Church, Fremont, NE to administer for flood victim relief. Pastor Cindy Cone delivered our Lenten offerings that totaled $1,407.00. God Bless these offerings and thank the Peace Lutheran Church volunteers for what they are doing. However, there is a ‘Here is the Rest of Story’ to tell. On Tuesday after Easter, Pastor Cindy Cone received a phone call from Mrs. Lisa Broxterman, Social Studies and History teacher at Axtell High School (USD 113). Lisa informed Pastor Cindy that Axtell Schools (Pre-K through High School), including parents, community members and teachers knew of the Nebraska flood victims needs. The youth, teachers and community collected a few dozen boxes of cleaning and non-perishable supplies to be donated for that effort and they were looking for someone to deliver to Nebraska. Lisa, upon learning that Pastor Cindy would be delivering the Salem Offering to Peace Lutheran Church, also asked Pastor Cindy, if she would be able to deliver the donated supplies at the same time. From Pastor Cindy, it was a resounding ‘YES’. On Wednesday, April 24, Pastor Cindy went to Axtell High School to be met by Lisa Broxterman and some high school students who literally stuffed Pastor Cindy’s car full of cleaning supplies—70 cubic feet. You can see from the photo it was an amazing sight! The next day, Thursday April 25, Pastor Cindy drove to Peace Lutheran Church in Fremont Nebraska to deliver the Axtell School collected supplies and Church offerings. May God bless the use of these supplies and offerings.
Every man shall give as he is able, according to the blessing of the LORD your God which He has given you. Deuteronomy 16:17
14 What does it profit, my brethren, if a man says he has faith but has not works? Can his faith save him? 15 If a brother or sister is ill-clad and in lack of daily food, 16 and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, be warmed and filled,” without giving them the things needed for the body, what does it profit? 17 So faith by itself, if it has no works, is dead. James 2:14-17
